Ron Holland, KJ Lewis, & JT Toppin Headline A LOADED Field At The 7th Annual DFW All-Star Showcase
The stars aligned in the Mecca this past Sunday at the 7th Annual DFW High School All-Star Showcase presented by The Heads Up! Foundation. The annual community event featured a loaded field headlined by several of the nation's top prospects including the most decorated player in Texas High School Hoops history, Texas signee Ron Holland. Other notables included Arizona signee KJ Lewis, New Mexico signee/Texas 4A State MVP Jadyn Toppin, Oklahoma St signee Justin McBride, Portuguese U20 National Team selection Daniel Vieira-Tuck, Troy signee Myles Rigsby, and Texas 5A State Champion TJohnn Brown.
The All-Star teams, Team LJ and Team Bosh, paid homage to Larry Johnson and Chris Bosh, two pioneers of DFW basketball who had Hall of Fame playing careers. The LJ All-Stars were led by legendary Texas high school Coach Richard Bacon and the Desoto HS Varsity staff. Team Bosh was led by 3x state champion Ferrin Douglas and the Lancaster HS Varsity staff. Douglas also coached Bosh as an assistant coach on the Dallas Lincoln 40-0 national championship squad.
The festivities also included a Celebrity Meet & Greet with former Texas High School Hoops legend/University of Michigan star Maceo Baston, the Triple D 3pt Shootout and the Spud Webb King of Dallas Slam Dunk Contest. Devin Lewis of Carter HS won the 3pt Contest and Ron Holland of Duncanville HS won the Slam Dunk Contest. The All-Star Community event served as the 20th anniversary celebration of The Heads Up! Foundation, a Dallas based non-profit organization that has been serving local schools and communities through education, sports, and mentoring for over two decades. Donations are welcomed and accepted here. All contributions are tax-deductible.

Why Texas?
I chose to stay home so that I can continue to have the support of my family, extended family, and friends. Also, I believe that continuing my brand in the great state of Texas will be beneficial for me when I decide to stop playing basketball professionally.
What factors played a role in your choice?
While all schools that were my top were a good fit, many factors played a role in my choice whether it was educational, business, and personal. However, the decision was mines by myself as I was provided all the resources needed within my circle to assist me.
How does it feel to be considered one of the most decorated players in Texas High School Basketball history?
It feels great. Although, there is so much more to accomplish. I'm not done yet.
What does a coach get in a player like you?
A competitive player that remains eager to win. As a person, however, I'm trustworthy and determined to put in the work on and off the court.
What NBA player would you compare your game to?
Why I don't think that I can be compared to just one player in particular as I have many traits of many great players, I have to say right now my game is similar to Mikal Bridges, Scottie Barnes, Dorian-Finney Smith, OG Anunoby
What are your interests outside of basketball?
I like to just chill and play my video games with my friend online.
What's your hidden talent or Something we may not know about you?
My hidden talent would be that I can play football and volleyball.
Talk about your parents support and influence and what it means to you?
My parents along with my sister have been my biggest fans and support system since I was young. Them pushing me to my limit and believing in me helped me along the way. Everything I do present and future, I'm doing it for them .
What's been your biggest challenge or obstacle up to this point and how did you get through it?What did you learn from your experience?
Staying the course mentally has been my biggest challenge. That's an everyday challenge honestly. You have to have people surrounding you to help you cope with and making sure you understand that you have a purpose. I have that.
What's your best piece of advice for a kid who's following in your footsteps?
Hardwork and dedication is what you need to succeed. Failure is not an option. Keep a winning mentality and you'll always win even if you lose.

In addition to my basketball ability, I also have great grades as I will graduate in the top 10% of my class and will also have 21 hours college credit upon high school graduation.

What's been your biggest challenge or obstacle up to this point and how did you get through it? Struggling with the politics of basketball and not passing the “eye test”. Being a 6’1” PG has been difficult as a lot of college coaches want taller even though I can play better than that taller athlete they are recruiting. I just keep my head up with this issue because it is out of my control and I know I will end up where I am supposed to be.
