Red Oak Cruises past Plano West To Win Back2Back CHLCT Titles, Marcus Sasser and Josh Miller Earn Co


On Dec, the Cedar Hill Lions Club hosted its annual Hoops Invitational at Cedar Hill HS in Cedar Hill, Texas and HeadsUp! MEDIA and Scouting was on the scene with exclusive access of the 3-day event. The Invitational featured 16 teams and some quality action all weekend long. Here's a recap of all the action. Congratulations to Coach Jason Sasser and the Red Oak Hawks on winning Back2Back Lions Club Tournament Championships

1st Place: Red Oak Hawks

Runner-Up: Plano West Wolves

Third Place: Cedar Hill Longhorns

Fourth Place: Fort Worth Dunbar Wildcats

Cedar Hill Lions Club Tournament 2018 Co-MVPs: Marcus Sasser Jr and Josh Miller

Marcus Sasser Jr

Red Oak '19

(Tournament co-mvp)

There aren't many guards in the state are playing at the level Sasser is at this point in the season. The University of Houston signee followed up his Tourney MVP performance @ the Arlington Classic last week with a Co-MVP performance at the CHLC Tourney. Averaged 25ppg 4apg 2spg on his way to leading the Red Oak to Back2Back Tourney titles/MVP awards. Scored at will from all 3 levels and made plays for his teammates when facing the trap defense.

Josh Miller

Red Oak '19

The 6-6 senior guard Averaged 23ppg 6rpg 2bpg including 21pts 5rebs 2blks in the semifinal round vs FW Dunbar and 22pts vs Plano West in the tournament championship game. A long, rangy athlete Miller showcased his ability to be a dominant player on both sides of the ball with his scoring, defense, and rebounding. One of the top unsigned seniors in Texas. Tyreek Smith

Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill '19

The Texas A&M signee had a dominating tournament run for the Trinity Tigers. Averaged a double double and shot over 70% from the field during CHLC Tourney play including a 24p 10r 4b vs iSchool Academy and a near triple double performance vs Irving Nimitz with 14pts 8rebs 6blks. Elite Rim Protector and Finisher whose best years are still ahead of him. Jonathan Aku

ISchool Academy ' 20

The 6'10 Junior post has really improved his game since the summer. Showcased his ability to play with his back to the basket or face up. Averaged a double double throughout CHLC play including 18p 12r (8-9 2PT) vs TCCH and a 21pt 8reb performance vs FW Dunbar Quevian Adger

iSchool Academy '20

The 6-6 junior wing averaged 17ppg 6rpg 3apg for ISchool Academy during CHLCT play including a 17pt 6reb 6ast performance in the opening round matchup vs TCCH. Impressive prospect who showcased alot of versatility and athleticism on both sides of the ball.

Ryan Zambie

Plano West '19

The 6'2 Guard led the Wolves in scoring throughout CHLC play. An All-Tournament Performer, Zambie proved to be one of the top scorers at the CHLC, dropping a tournament high 32pts vs EP Andres. Deadly from the perimeter and has solid basketball IQ. Jeremiah Keys

Fort Worth Dunbar '19

Arguably the most exciting, athletic guards to watch in DFW, Keys had an impressive CHLC Tourney run. The 6'0 senior guard averaged 16ppg including a 32pt outburst vs iSchool Academy in the 2nd round Isaiah Range

Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill '19

The 6'4 senior guard averaged 16ppg 5rpg 3apg for the Tigers during CHLCT play including a 19pt 6reb performance vs Irving Nimitz. Range showcased big time athleticism, scoring, and playmaking ability. Also showed flashes of lockdown defensive potential. One of the top unsigned prospects in the DFW area

Keldrick Hayes

Cedar Hill '19

One of two Veteran leaders for the Longhorns squad, Hayes averaged a double double including a 15pt performance vs West Mesquite and a 13pt 12r performance vs Darius Barclay

EP Andres '19

The 6'3 senior guard was one of the better perimeter shooters at the CHLCT. Leading scorer for EP Andres who averaged double figures in scoring. Had a 20pt performance vs Plano West including 4 3ptFGs. Timothy Hartman

Fort Worth Dunbar '20

(Not Pictured) The 6'8 junior averaged a double-double for the Wildcats during CHLC Tourney play. Solid interior presence on both ends.

Chris George

Fort Worth Dunbar '20

The 6'3 junior guard averaged double figures in scoring throughout CHLC Tourney play for the Wildcats including 13pts vs iSchool Academy and 15pts vs Red Oak Mason Mathers

Life Waxahachie '19

The 6'8 senior forward averaged over 12ppg 7rpg 2bpg during CHLC Tourney play. Was a solid rim protector on the defensive end and an efficient low post scorer for the Mustangs.

Breyden Jones

Life Waxahachie '19

The 6'3 Senior led Life Waxahachie in scoring during CHLC Tourney play including a 20pt performance vs Red Oak in the 2nd round.

Zakari Franklin

Cedar Hill '19

Although The 4-star football recruit was only able to play the first day due to a previously scheduled recruiting visit, Franklin proved to be one of the best athletes at the CHLC Tourney. Scored 16pts in his season debut on the hardwood.

Jordan Berry

Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill '19

The 6'2 senior guard continues his stellar play for the Tigers. Averaged over 16ppg including a17pt (3-7 3PT) 5reb performance vs iSchool Academy. Shot over 40% from 3pt range during CHLC Tourney play and 35% for the season

Peter Krivokapic

ISchool Academy '20

The 6'3 junior serves as the perfect compliment for the iSchool Academy duo of Aku and Adger. Defended the best perimeter player each game and knocked down shots at a high clip. Showcased good athleticism with one of the most memorable dunks of the Tourney vs Trinity Christian in the opening round.

Brandon Walker

Cedar Hill '22

Only a 14 year old freshman, Walker played well beyond his years and proved he's one of the top 2022 prospects in DFW. The 6'5 forward averaged a double double during CHLC Tourney play including a 12pt 12reb performance vs FW Dunbar and a 16pt 9reb game vs South Hills.

Josh Sasser

Red Oak '20

The 6'0 junior guard proved to be a reliable scorer and defender for the Red Oak Hawks title run. Averaged double figures in scoring and emerging as the third scoring option. Played with a lot of confidence and did a solid job of relieving the defensive pressure Marcus Sasser and Josh Miller. A CHLCT All-tournament Performer.

Alec Zambie

Plano West '22 The 6'5 freshman guard was a key contributor to the Plano West run through the CHLC Tourney. Averaged double figures in scoring for the Wolves. Played with tons of confidence for a freshman and understands how to play. impressive 2022 prospect

Latrone Turner

Red Oak '20

The 6'0 junior guard did a lot of things for Red Oak that may not always show up on the stat sheet. Played solid defense, was always a scoring threat on offense, and whether it was a defensive stop that was needed or making the extra pass on offense for open shots, Turner was there to make the play. His contribution was critical to Red Oak

 

All-Defensive Team

Tyreek Smith TC-Cedar Hill The Elite Rim protector averaged 4 blocks per game during CHLC Tourney play for TCCH including 6 blocked shots vs Irving Nimitz. One of the most dominant defenders in the State. Jacob Keys FW Dunbar The 5'6 sophmore guard put "94ft of heat" on opposing ballhandlers each time he stepped on the floor for the Wildcats. Keys' pressure defense was the key to a young Dunbar squad that continues to improve each game. Kendrick Washington TC-Cedar Hill The 5'8 Senior guard continues to prove he is a top notch defender. A really good on ball defender, Washington created havoc for opposing ballhandlers all weekend long. Mason Mathers Life Waxahachie The 6'8 Senior post provided solid rim protection for Life Waxahachie. Did a great job of affecting many shots during CHLC Tourney play including a 4 block performance vs Red Oak. Dylan Wright West Mesquite The 6'6 junior forward was a beast in the paint for West Mesquite. Played with a high level of tenacity and toughness on both ends each time he stepped on the floor.
